I have it installed in my 407SW; finally.
I don't have the CD, apparently the instructions not to give the cd before the offical launch have been very clear. I can understand that though...
Apparently, this is the official build in a final QAtesting phase, but it is not expected to be different from the offcial version, whenever it comes out.
I haven't explored everything yet, but skipped quickly through all the menus and options and played around with it for a while.
- Menu's are a bit reordered, much more logical now
- Added option to disable the TMC popups (at last!!! - very good)
- The option to tell the street names in the directions has been (re?)added
- Much better female voice (she sounds like she's 16-18 years old, better text to speech), though when used in combination with the street names, I get two different voices (directions in new voice, street names in old voice - perhaps if I ever have the official CD I could change or upgrade the old voice).
- When you zoom in the map to 50m (the max zoom), small arrows indicate the direction you can drive in a street (very interesting for one-way streets).
- There is now a third route calculation option next to 'Quickest' and 'Shortest', it is called 'Time/Distance'. There is also another option next to 'tollways' and 'ferries', and it's called 'Traffic info' - but it's grayed out, even when TMC messages are in, and I don't seem to be able to enable it. Is this the dynamic navigation spoken of ? Not sure. Maybe it has to be enabled through PPS ?
- MP3 support. Works perfectly out of the box. To see the titles and names of the songs, one has to explicitely enable a 'show song info' option, but after that it simply works. Without the navigation CD though, and NO, it's not possible to remove the navtech cd after route calculation and insert an mp3 cd whilst still navigating. It simply stops navigating. The list button as well as the arrow keys can be used, very nice!
- There is a navigation demo mode, where the navigation smeems to be driving on the screen the route you should driving, at the expected speed.
- Perhaps a bit too soon to state, but TMC seems to be better... I got the messages in the two times I started my engine twice in less than 2 minutes. The E-numbering of the roads (which is what everyone uses in Belgium) seems to be gone completely though, I guess I'll have to memorize the A-numbers by heart. And there's still no default ordering of TMC messages based on distance.
Overall impression is very positive! Quality has gone up a lot. My only remaining concerns are:
- Dynamic (traffic info based) navigation ? How do I enable it?
- Still no ordering of TMC messages
- Car parking sensors do not show up in the display (perhaps not related to this version, just a config setting with my car)
I will post more info as I find out.
