Recently I discovered yet another funny behaviour of my 407, this time it's the rev counter.

When I slowly accelerate, so that the engine rpm increases steadily from below 1000 up, at a rate of approx 100 rpm/second), the needle of the counter jams at around 1600 rpm for about one second, and then quickly jumps and continues rising smoothly.
The engine does not seem to be affected at all, it accelerates smoothly without problems.
This also happens in idle, if you press the accelerator lightly and watch the rev counter.
As with all my problems :D , this one too cannot always be reproduced.

Last week, my 407 has the same problem. Between 1600 rpm and 2000 rpm, it jumps and the motor don't turn normaly. When you past 2000 rpm, the engine works normaly.

This problem comes of the EGR valve. If your car do like mine, in few days, you must have an alarm on your board. Wait one or two days and this alarm dispear and your 407 must run normaly.

I do like that on my 407. Now it feel good since the next time.

Thanks for the response.
Serval, what engine do you have and how old is your 407?
What is the message you get on the board?

It's a 2 l HDI 136 HP. I have it since the beginning of june 04. Now it have 53300 km (33100 miles).

The error message its (I'm sorry in french) " Système antipollution défaillant". You have this system only if your car is a diesel. It's about the system who catch the fines particules in the gaz after the engine (I hope that Iam clear).
